Thank you for volunteering to be a sighted guide! Whether this is your first time or your tenth, we truly appreciate your time, dedication, and support in helping blind and visually impaired sailors experience the freedom of sailing.
We ask that all sighted guides sign up for training and/or the season by clicking the button above. Additionally, please register on this website (top right-hand corner). We will soon be adding videos, forums, and other training materials, and you will need to be registered to access these resources.
You might be wondering, "How can a blind person sail?" That’s something you’ll learn through training and hands-on experience as a sighted guide. I (Katy Boyd) had the same question when I moved to Boston years ago. I am legally blind, and when someone told me I could sail about nine years ago, I was skeptical—how could they not let me drive, but they’d let me sail a boat? But I gave it a try, and from day one, I was hooked.
For me, sailing is the one place I have never been told "No." On the water, I feel free and independent. Every day, I am grateful for the people who introduced me to sailing, for the sighted guides who have helped me improve, and for the incredible sailors I continue to meet and learn from.
Thank you all for being part of this journey. I hope to sail with you soon!
